AWFS ~ Leading the Industry Successfully Through the 21st Century
The largest national trade association in the U.S. representing the interests of the broad array of companies that supply the home and commercial furnishings industry.
To provide programs and services which benefit our members and promote a growing and financially sound woodworking and furnishings industry.
The Association of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers, AWFS, founded in 1911, is a non-profit organization that wholly owns and produces the biennial AWFSFair. With over 400 members, the association's membership consists of manufacturers and distributors of machinery, hardware, software, tooling, lumber, components, wood products and supplies the woodworking industry including cabinet, furniture, millwork and custom woodworking manufacturers.
Since its inception, AWFS has donated millions of dollars toward educational programs and scholarships to the next generation of industry leaders. AWFS is also a major supporter of WoodLINKS USA, a program specifically created to revive and update vocational woodworking school programs throughout the nation and to promote the woodworking industry to a truly viable career choice for America's youth.
In addition to its education initiatives, AWFS also actively challenges legislation that is unfair to American manufacturers to be more competitive in the ever changing global marketplace. Since AWFS reinvests the proceedings from the biennial show back into the woodworking industry, Fair supporters and participants are helping to strengthen the industry's future.

Is Green Going Global?
The International Code Council (ICC) has been working on a regulatory framework for new and existing commercial buildings which they are calling the International Green Construction Code (IGCC). According to an article written by Lauren Browne, Editor for ConnectPress, all 50 states currently use the ICC codes and the IGCC will become a part of ICC codes already in place. The code will attempt to define what comprises a "green" building and will be inherently flexible enough to address regional differences. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) was one of the partnering groups that contributed to the development. The code supports the AIA goal of carbon neutrality by 2030. There will be a public comment period from March 15 through May 14, 2010, with a summary of final action in November 2011 and an anticipated publish date of 2012. For additional information, go to www.ICCsafe.org/cs/IGCC.
